Plywood Door Prices per Unit: Bulk FOB Cost Breakdown
Quick answer: Plywood door prices only become comparable when the quote fixes the baseline: leaf or full set, size, thickness, core, face grade, finish, frame and hardware inclusions, order quantity and FOB point. For early budgeting, basic primed or paint-grade plywood-faced project doors might be planned from roughly US$30-65 per set, natural veneer or higher-grade finished specifications around US$55-110, and acoustic/fire constructions materially higher. Treat those as 2026 editorial planning bands, not quotations.
What 'plywood door' usually means in a quote
In export listings, plywood may describe the face material, a plywood substrate within a flush construction, or a framed panel system—not necessarily a leaf made entirely of structural plywood. Ask for a section drawing showing face thickness and grade, core, stiles/rails, edge band and total leaf thickness. Two products with the same photograph can have different screw-holding, moisture behaviour and finishing quality.
A like-for-like baseline specification
Use one reference set for every supplier: for example, a nominal 2,100 x 900 mm leaf, 40 mm thick, defined core, stated plywood face and finish, with or without frame, architrave, hinges, lock and handle. Record packaging, machining and sample charges separately. If one supplier's US$45 excludes frame and hardware while another's US$70 is a complete prehung set, the second may be cheaper installed.
Budget bands and what moves them
Paint-grade faces sit at the economical end because minor grain variation is hidden. Book-matched natural veneer, higher face grades, solid particle cores, 45 mm construction, factory lacquer, glazed apertures and acoustic seals move the price up. Fire constructions should be priced as tested doorsets rather than as plywood doors with an add-on. Small mixed-size orders also carry setup and packing costs that disappear only when quantities repeat.
Freight can reverse the factory ranking
A plywood-faced hollow door may be cheap and light but require more protective packing and suffer higher damage. A heavier solid-core set costs more at the gate yet can pack and install predictably. Compare cost per surviving installed set: product, frame/hardware, packaging, ocean freight per loaded set, duty, site labour and defect allowance. Flat slabs generally load more densely than prehung sets, so the logistics assumption belongs in the price article, not a footnote.
Questions that expose a soft quotation
- Is the price leaf-only, leaf + frame, or prehung set?
- What exact core and face thickness/grade sit behind the word plywood?
- Which sizes and quantity per design does the unit price assume?
- Are machining, edge banding, primer/finish and packaging included?
- Which hardware brands and functions are included or excluded?
- What changes when the door becomes veneered, glazed, acoustic or fire-rated?
Specification checklist: what to confirm before ordering
- Door schedule with sizes, quantities, hand, design and finish for every line.
- One baseline specification and an inclusion/exclusion matrix for frame and hardware.
- Sample count and timing, production planning band and milestone triggers stated.
- Packed dimensions, gross weights, stack limits and container plan confirmed before booking freight.
- Inspection method, payment milestones, change control and claim process written into the order.

FAQs
Why do plywood door quotes vary so much?
The word plywood can describe different face grades and constructions, and suppliers include different frames, finishes and hardware. A section drawing and inclusion list explain most variation.
Is plywood better than MDF for doors?
Plywood can offer good screw-holding and a real-wood face system; MDF-faced doors offer a smooth paint substrate. Moisture exposure, core, finish and machining quality matter more than the face label alone.
Should I budget hardware inside the plywood door price?
Quote it as a separate line. Standard hardware can add a modest amount, while closers and electronic locks change the set cost substantially.
Data note: Figures described as typical, common or planning ranges are industry budgeting ranges with the stated assumptions. Building-code duties, tested scope and final quotations depend on destination, selected construction and order schedule.
